The suspect allegedly vandalized the courtroom after sessions were adjourned for lunch.
HOLYOKE -- Police arrested a 33-year-old Springfield man after he vandalized a courtroom in Holyoke District Court Monday while sessions were adjourned for lunch.
Lt. David Fournier said the suspect allegedly entered the empty court room after 1 p.m. and broke a chair, a monitor and a microphone and tossed courtroom papers around.
Investigators arrested the suspect after viewing lobby video surveillance tapes. Witnesses spotted the suspect entering the courtroom and leaving about 10 minutes later, Fournier said.
The suspect, Luis D. Laureano, of 454 Carew St., Springfield, was charged with three counts of malicious destruction of property and disrupting a court proceeding.
Laureano was held overnight in lieu of $10,000 cash bail and was slated to be arraigned today.
Fournier said he did not believe the suspect had any pending matters with the court on Monday.
