Several area school districts have closed school for Monday because of concerns about children’s safety getting to and back from school on roads that are not totally cleared after Friday night's storm.

Springfield, Ludlow, Westfield, Agawam, West Springfield, Holyoke, Somers and Enfield public schools are closed. St. Michael's Academy in Springfield and Career Technology Regional School in West Springfield are all closed.

Officials announced schools will close because of poor road conditions. They were also closed on Friday.

Asnuntuck Community College in Enfield and Westfield State University are also closed.

Longmeadow Schools and St. Mary's School, also in Longmeadow will have two-hour delays in openings.

Chicopee Mayor Michael D. Bissonnette said Superintendent Richard W. Rege Jr. will decide if schools should be open by 5 a.m. Monday.

“Given the large number of students that walk to school, we need to make sure that sidewalks are clear and roads are safe for all our kids to walk on. We also have concerns about buses going down side streets,” said Holyoke Mayor Alex B. Morse in an announcement about schools closing.
