SPRINGFIELD - An Enfield patrolman was arrested early Sunday morning on the Massachusetts Turnpike and charged with drunken driving with a child in his car.

Thomas Chagnon, 45, of Somers, was arrested shortly after midnight on the Turnpike in Auburn and charged with drunken driving, child endangerment, speeding, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and possession of an open container of alcohol, according to state police officials.

State Police did not release information about the age of the child in the car.

Chagnon was scheduled to be arraigned in Worcester District Court Monday. Court officials did not release information about the hearing but said he was released after.

Enfield Police Deputy Chief Gary Collins confirmed Chagnon works as a patrolman with the department. No action has been taken against him immediately following the arrest.

“We will be doing our investigation into it,” he said.

Collins said police are waiting for reports from Massachusetts State Police and gathering other information for the investigation.
