The woman was pronounced dead about 90 minutes after the accident.
SPRINGFIELD – A 57-year-old Wilbraham woman was killed when she was hit by a car on Allen Street Sunday afternoon.
The woman’s name is not being released until family members can be notified. She lives on Main Street, said Sgt. John Delaney, aide to Police Commissioner William Fitchet.
The victim was being treated at the Family Medical Center for bruised ribs from an unrelated incident and was hit by the car as she was leaving the center and crossing the street near the intersection of Bicentennial Highway.
“She suffered extensive injuries and was thrown onto the hood and over the vehicle,” Delaney said.
The woman was taken to Baystate Medical Center by ambulance and was pronounced dead about 90 minutes after the accident, he said.
The car was driven by a female Springfield resident. She has not been cited in the accident but it is under investigation by the Police Department’s Traffic Division Fatality Squad, Delaney said.
The driver’s name was not released.
The nearby streets were closed for a time while police investigated the accident.
This is the third fatal accident in Springfield this week.
Allison Dwarska, 17, a senior at Sabis International Charter School, died Wednesday night in a single-car accident on Roosevelt Avenue. She was a passenger and the driver, who has not been identified, may face charges.
Max Moran, 23, was killed Thursday morning when he lost control of the car at about 4 a.m. and crashed into a fire hydrant at Parker Street and Ellendale Circle. Moran was a police cadet and Springfield Technical Community College student.
