Holyoke police arrest three men as they allegedly kicked in the door of a Cabot Street apartment.

HOLYOKE— Three men were arrested Friday evening after they allegedly kicked in the door of a Cabot Street apartment and assaulted the people living there with handguns.

Holyoke Police Capt. Manny Febo said police cruisers were nearby when the 6:37 p.m. report of a "disturbance with guns" came into police headquarters. He said officers were on scene of the 68 Cabot Street incident within minutes, fast enough to trap the three suspects in the apartment and to recover two firearms thought to be used in the assault.

Febo said Julio Romero,29, of 129 Central St. in Springfield, has been charged with home invasion, assault with a dangerous weapon (a firearm), carrying a loaded firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card and carrying a firearm without a license, a subsequent offense.

Jonathan Britton, 21, of 45 Moody St. in Ludlow, faces charges of home invasion, assault with a dangerous weapon (a firearm), possession of ammunition without an FID card, carrying a loaded firearm and carrying a firearm without a license.

Domienique Gomez, 21, of 48 Forest St. in Springfield, was apparently not armed during the incident. He has been charged with home invasion and was the subject of an outstanding arrest warrant.

Febo said two handguns, a Cobra and a Kal-Tec model semi-automatic handguns, both .380 cal., were recovered. Holyoke Police Crime Investigation Bureau detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.

The suspects will be arraigned in Holyoke District Court Monday.
