Tarraza, 28, who is represented by Jeffrey Brown, was arrested in Florida on a murder warrant.
SPRINGFIELD — A 28-year-old man arrested in Florida this week on a warrant for a 2010 murder here was ordered held without right to bail today by a judge in Hampden Superior Court.
Dennys Tarraza was arraigned before Judge Mary Lou Rup on an indictment charging him with first-degree murder for the 2010 shooting death of Ramon Leonardo-Cruz.
Tarraza, who is represented by Jeffrey Brown, was arrested in Florida on a warrant.
He is the fourth person to face charges for Leonardo-Cruz's death. He has denied all charges.
Tarraza and Joshua Oquendo, 27, of Springfield, were indicted in July for the death of the 34-year-old Leonardo-Cruz during a home invasion of a Mill Street apartment in December 2010.
Both Tarraza and Oquendo also face three counts of home invasion (Leonardo-Cruz, his mother and his girlfriend were in the apartment) and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Court documents state witnesses told police that three masked men entered the third-floor apartment at 265 Mill St. on the night of Dec. 14, 2010, demanded money from Leonardo-Cruz, shot and stabbed him and then fled in a car.
A short time later, police arrested Juan Bermudez, then 18, at his 24 Allen St. residence, and charged him with murder. His case is still pending in Hampden Superior Court.
Demetrius Sanchez, 19, pleaded guilty in December in Hampden Superior Court to a reduced charge of voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to an 18- to 20-year term in state prison, to be followed by three years probation when released.
Sanchez was just 16 when he pulled the trigger of a .38-caliber revolver and shot Leonardo-Cruz.
Court documents state that Leonardo-Cruz died from trauma caused by both the stabbing and gunshot wounds.
The prosecutor, Assistant District Attorney Neil Desroches, said Oquendo and Tarraza were indicted based on further investigation into the death.
