SPRINGFIELD— A male motorcycle driver lost control of his Suzuki bike and slid it under a parked car, pinning himself in the process. His medical condition and identity are unknown at this time.

Fire rescue personnel from the city's Heavy Rescue unit were called out to the area of 350 Berkshire Avenue at approximately 3:25 a.m. to find a motorcycle driver under a parked Buick Park Avenue, with his bike wedged under the car as well.

The motorcycle had been operating west bound on Berkshire Avenue when he lost control, and apparently laid the bike on it side and slid under the car.

Fire Department spokesman Dennis Leger said the speed and weight of the bike at the time of the crash lifted the rear of the car as the driver was sliding under the vehicle. Once the impact had passed, the car settled down, pinning the rider underneath.

Rescuers used air bags to lift the rear of the car and to stabilize the vehicle, removed the rider and turned him over to ambulance personnel for transport to the Baystate Medical Center.

Nearby residents say the curve in Berkshire Avenue near the intersection with Robert Dyer Circle is the scene of numerous accidents. A slight curve in Berkshire surprises drivers who are traveling too fast.
