Springfield firefighters extinguish fire in 3-family home on Northampton Avenue

The fire caused $8,000 to $10,000 in damage between the 2nd and 3rd floors of the house.

SPRINGFIELD — Firefighters on Monday afternoon extinguished a fire that started in a second floor bathroom at 100 Northampton Ave. in the Upper Hill neighborhood of the city.

Fire Department spokesman Dennis Leger said the fire started at 2:34 p.m. when a work light in a second floor bathroom caught fire on some combustible materials, and the fire spread to the ceiling and wall.

There were no injuries. There was only one workman on site at the time, Leger said.

The fire caused $8,000 to $10,000 in damage between the second and third floors of the three-family house, Leger said.
