Update: At least one person has been killed by gunfire, Sgt, John M. Delaney, spokesman for Police Commissioner William J. Fitchet said.

SPRINGFIELD — Police are investigating gunfire that injured two people in the city's Upper Hill neighborhood early Wednesday morning.

The shootings happened in the vicinity of Albemarle and Braddock streets, but authorities were unable to immediately provide details of the incident. "We can't give you anything right now," Springfield Police Sgt. Dennis Prior said shortly after 7 a.m.

Police units were at the scene of the shootings. A suspect is reportedly in custody.

A strong police presence can be seen on Albermarle Street and one street away, on Braddock Street. A police cruiser, with a blown right front tire, parked in the area of Albermarle and Westford Circle, appears to be a major focus in the investigation.

At least 20 evidence markers can be seen on Albermarle. The intersections of Albermarle and Westford and Braddock and Westford, have been cordoned off with yellow police tape.

A third scene on Albermarle, halfway between Westford and Wilbraham Road, also remains under investigation.
