A 19-year-old Springfield man remains in critical condition, and police continue their hunt for the vehicle they believe ran him down.
SPRINGFIELD -- A 19-year-old Springfield man remains in critical condition, and police continue their hunt for the vehicle they believe ran him down in an early Saturday morning hit and run.
Police say Jonthany Maldonado was taken from the scene of the 4 a.m. incident to the Baystate Medical Center. Doctors admitted him into the hospital and listed his condition then as critical. According to CBS3, Maldonado's condition has not improved since.
Police responded to a call reporting a man lying unconscious in the roadway at Sumner and Longhill shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday morning. Upon arrival, the first responders reported Maldonado to be unresponsive and suffering multiple severe injuries.
Police are searching for a black or very dark colored 2012 or 2013 Buick Verano they believe was the vehicle which hit Maldonado. Officers responding to the incident reported finding pieces of a Buick, including its front grill and a medallion bearing the Buick logo, scattered around the scene. Police say the vehicle has heavy front end and windshield damage, and may have blood traces on the bodywork.
