Looking for a new place to eat out at this weekend? Why not head over to Mama Iguana's new location next to the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield.
We stopped by the new location--formerly the site of the fusion bar Onyx--to get a tour from Claudio Guerra. Guerra owns Spoleto Restaurant Group, which includes Mama Iguana's, Spoleto, Paradise City Taverns, and Pizzeria Paradiso.
With the new Springfield location, Guerra said his biggest challenge was to make the place fun and exciting.
"I think we pulled it off," he told us during a recent tour. "People really seem to love the space."
Guerra hired outside artists to create paintings and decorations specifically for this space, and traditional and modern Mexican art hangs from the walls throughout the three-story restaraunt.
We were shown into the newly-remodeled kitchen where chef Gio Perez prepared Molé Poblano --- one of the restaurants specialties.
We then took a look at the "Tequila Altar." Mama Iguana's bar has more than 250 different types of tequila, and according to Guerra, it's the largest tequila selection of any bar in New England.
