Turners Falls Fire Chief Robert Escott said the two men crashed into a barrier near Plains Road that had been put in place to keep motor vehicles out of the Montague State Wildlife Management Area. Escott said the crash occurred shortly before 9:15 p.m. but had no additional information.
Montague police and a spokeswoman for state Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, which oversees the Environmental Police, could not be reached for comment.
In Benson, Vt. this weekend a 48-year-old man was killed and a 10-year-old boy was injured when the snowmobile they were jointly operating crashed jumped an embankment and crashed into a tractor trailer truck.
