HOLYOKE – A report of shots fired somewhere between Hampshire and Sargeant streets in the area of Chestnut Street Monday afternoon led to the arrest of a 16-year-old on heroin and crack cocaine charges.
Teachers outside Lawrence Elementary School at the close of the school day, shortly after 3 p.m., called police after hearing the shots, Capt. Denise Duguay said.
No injuries were reported.
Detectives James McGillicuddy and Steve Rogers, along with officers Josue Colon and Manny Rivera, arrested the suspect after a brief foot chase. They were aided by detective Brendan Boyle who monitored the chase via surveillance cameras from inside the station, Duguay said.
No weapon was found.
The juvenile was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of heroin and possession of heroin with intent to distribute.
Duguay said the department has two Manny Riveras and that the one involved in the chase and the arrest holds Badge 280.
