This is the first inaugural ball in Easthampton since 1996.
EASTHAMPTON – The last time there was a mayoral inaugural ball here “Macarena” was a top hit, “The English Patient” won Best Picture and "The Daily Show" made its debut on Comedy Central with host Craig Kilburn.
Now with a new mayor - the first since Michael Tautznik became the city’s first-ever mayor in 1996 - the city wants residents to dust off their dancing shoes and perhaps don black tie for a party Jan. 18 at the Log Cabin in Holyoke to celebrate new Karen Cadieux.
The long-time aide to Tautznik, Cadieux won the mayoral seat in November defeating three challengers.
“Because it’s been so long, it’s a great opportunity to bring the community together for a happy event,” said Ray Drewnowski, a member of the Inaugural Committee. “It’s a fun time,” he said.
Anyone in the community and beyond is welcome. Tickets are $60 each. The money will pay for a five-course meal of surf and turf - with other options available for those with food allergies or other dietary needs, he said. Music will be provided by Five Star Entertainment, a disc jockey service.
Anything beyond the cost will be donated to a charity the mayor chooses, Drewnowski said.
He said elected officials will be introduced and the mayor will give a very brief speech. Other than that it will just be a party.
Tickets are available at the Municipal Building in the city clerk and mayor's offices.
