Patrick McCarthy, 47, of East Green St., Easthampton, was charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after he allegedly beat his friend with a baseball bat outside the man's Florence home.
NORTHAMPTON — A man was beaten with a baseball bat outside his home in the Florence section of Northampton just before 9 p.m. Saturday, police Lt. Jody Kasper said Sunday.The victim, whom police declined to publicly identify, was taken to Cooley Dickinson Hospital with injuries to his head and arms. Police also declined to identify the location of the victim's home.
"I think he put up his arm to block the bat," Kasper said, adding that the victim's injuries are not life-threatening.
Police tracked the suspect to his Easthampton residence, where he was taken into custody about a half-hour after the alleged assault. Patrick McCarthy, 47, of East Green St. is expected to be arraigned Monday in Northampton District Court on two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, Kasper said.
McCarthy and the victim are acquainted, according to police, who are still trying to figure out what prompted the assault. "We're not sure what the motive is," Kasper said.
