Two armed robberies are being investigated by Springfield police.
SPRINGIELD— Springfield detectives are investigating two armed robberies Thursday, one involving a knife while the second was at gunpoint.
Springfield Police Det. Eric Podgurski confirmed that the Darker Image tanning salon at 94 Island Pond Road was robbed shortly after 4:30 p.m. by a man carrying a steak knife. Witnesses told police that the 6-foot-tall man had a goatee beard and wore a blue knit winter hat under a dark or black hoodie. He escaped the salon with approximately $200 in cash. Podgurski said the suspect fled the scene in a motor vehicle.
Nearly four hours later, police were called to a shoe and apparel store in a Liberty Street shopping plaza, where witnesses said a man armed with a large framed revolver held up the Source of New York store. Podgurski said the suspect ran out the back door of the store carrying merchandise. Police believe a getaway car was waiting for him.
Police say witnesses described the suspect as a male standing 5-foot,6-inches tall, with a goatee beard, wearing brown framed glasses, black jeans, a black hoodie, grey knit cap and sneakers.
