Water main break closes section of Wason Avenue in Springfield

UPDATE, 7:35 p.m.: Wason Avenue is passable, at the moment, under the direction of police officers. Capt. Trent Duda said while police are currently allowing cars through, the road may be closed later on in the evening. "It's a real mess down there," he said.

UPDATE, 6:10 p.m.: Springfield Water Department employees are working on locating and securing the break; the article has been updated to correct the section of Wason Avenue that is closed to traffic; a video of the water main break has been added to the article.


SPRINGFIELD — A section of Wason Avenue in the city's Brightwood neighborhood was closed to traffic following a water main break late Tuesday afternoon.

Water was gushing from the break after 5 p.m. near 50 Wason Ave. Police responded to the scene and blocked the street between Fisk Avenue and Plainfield Street.

Police told a photographer for The Republican that a crew from the Springfield Water Department was en route.

No further information was immediately available.
