The eviction now cannot take place before Feb. 19.
SPRINGFIELD – An eviction set for Friday was delayed until Feb. 19 by a Thursday ruling of a Housing Court judge, according to Springfield No One Leaves, which is helping the homeowner.
A blockade had been planned for Friday to keep the Jose Mendez family from being evicted from their Sixteen Acres home at 27 Talmadge Drive by Aurora Bank FSB.
The Mendez Family and an attorney argued in court that it was only fair to allow their attorney in this matter, who is currently out of the country, time to review paperwork from Aurora that denied them assistance and be able to make a counter offer.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the judge delayed the eviction. The eviction now cannot take place before Feb. 19. The Mendez Family and Springfield No One Leaves will continue to try and negotiate with the bank in hopes of reaching an agreeable solution to keeping the family in their home, the press release stated.
A potential clash between police and protesters was averted Oct. 12 when the Hampden County Sheriff’s office called off the eviction of the family when about 70 demonstrators for Springfield No One Leaves and the Bank Tenant Association surrounded the Mendez home to block a previously scheduled eviction by Aurora Bank.
