The Massachusetts State Lottery announced Monday that a woman from the Turners Falls section of Montague has won $1 million on a scratch ticket purchased at a local grocery store.
Rebecca DeBeauport became the 10th person to claim a $1 million prize with the lottery’s “50X The Cash” instant game.
DeBeauport, a musician who plays keyboards, opted to receive a one-time lump-sum payment of $650,000 minus taxes, according to lottery officials.
She indicated she would use the money to purchase a house in Shelburne Falls, the lottery said.
DeBeauport could not be reached for comment.
The winning ticket was purchased at Food City, 250 Avenue A in Turners Falls. The store will receive a $10,000 commission on the sale.
Jonathon Steiner, manager of Food City, said this is the first time the store has sold such a big winning ticket.
“I am very excited for the customer,” he said.
The $10 game, 50X the Cash, is designed to have five $4 million winners and 15 $1 million winners. According to lottery officials, there is one $4 million ticket and five $1 million tickets still unclaimed.
DeBeauport’s chances of winning were roughly 1 in 1.68 million.
