HOLYOKE— Holyoke police officers and South Hadley District 1 firefighters coordinated efforts to rescue a woman who was in the Connecticut River earlier.

South Hadley District 1 Fire Chief Robert Authier said the woman apparently went into the water on the Holyoke side of the river in the vicinity of the Dinosaur Tracks state park off Route 5.

Holyoke officers were able to pull the woman from the icy waters at approximately 11:15 p.m. Saturday, and provided first aid until a boat launched by the South Hadley Fire Department could reach them.

Authier said firefighters launched their rescue boat from a staging area created at the Red Cliff Canoe Club on Canal Street in South Hadley. The Chief said the boat with four firefighters traveled approximately half a mile upstream to take the woman aboard and brought her to an awaiting fire department ambulance.

This is a breaking story. More information will be posted as it vecomes available.
