SPRINGFIELD - A 62-year-old city man was arrested after police said he robbed the TD Bank at 561 Sumner Ave. late Saturday morning.
Capt. Mark S. Anthony said Raymond Vanderburgh, of 104 Commonwealth Ave., went into the bank at 11:30 a.m. and told the teller to give him money, because he was robbing the bank and “might have a gun.”
The teller began giving the man money, Anthony said.
“The male stated, ‘I’m not going to hurt you. You can call the cops,’” Anthony said.
So the teller did, and police were waiting outside when Vanderburgh left the bank, Anthony said.
Anthony said Vanderburgh did not attempt to conceal his appearance.
Vanderburgh was charged with unarmed robbery and is expected to be arraigned Monday in Springfield District Court.
