Southwick transfer station catches on fire.
SOUTHWICK — Officials believe fireplace ashes may have been the cause of a fire at the town's transfer station at 25 Industrial Road, Saturday night.
Capt. Bill Frazer said there is no official cause of the small fire which started at about 6 p.m.
"As of now the cause is undetermined, but after speaking with the DPW workers we believe it may have been some hot ashes mixed in with brush and leaves," Frazer said.
Firefighters were on scene for about three hours.
"The wind made the situation a bit more difficult, but everything is back to normal and the transfer station is open," he said.
