Joshua Phillip Klimas, 32, was arrested on a federal criminal complaint charging him with making threats against the president and the president’s family.
COVENTRY, Conn — The United States Secret Service arrested a Connecticut man on Wednesday, following an investigation into threats allegedly made toward President Barack Obama.
Joshua Phillip Klimas, 32, of Coventry, was arrested on a federal criminal complaint charging him with making threats against the president and the president’s family.
According to the Hartford Courant, Kilmas was an engineering student at the University of Connecticut until he was suspended in October. Kilmas allegedly used the alias "John Q Public" to log onto the White House's official website to send Obama messages, including one that read “If you do not resign by the end of the year I will kill you!”
Kilmas reportedly admitted to the threatening messages against the president and other officials, and was admitted to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation following an appearance in front of U.S. Magistrate Judge Donna F. Martinez in Hartford.
The Courant also reported that Kilmas said in an affidavit that he was undergoing mental health treatment but had a lapse in treatment that coincided with the time when the messages were sent.
The situation was investigated by the U.S. Secret Service with the assistance of the UConn Police Department and the Coventry Police Department.
