Todd GazdaLUDLOW - The Ludlow school district is one of 477 school districts in the U.S. and Canada and one of 33 districts in Massachusetts being honored by the College Board with placement on the fourth annual AP District Honor Roll for increasing access to AP course work while maintaining or increasing the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher on AP exams.
Since 2011, the Ludlow school district has increased the number of students participating in AP by 49 percent, while improving the number of students earning AP Exam scores of 3 or higher by 57 students.
School Superintendent Todd Gazda said, "One of the areas we have looked to improve at Ludlow High School is students' access to enriching rigorous course offerings."
He said the Ludlow School District is committed to expanding the availability of AP courses among prepared and motivated students of all backgrounds.
Trevor Parker, the College Board's senior vice president of AP and Instruction, said, "We applaud the extraordinary efforts of the devoted teachers and administrators in this district who are offering more students the opportunity to engage in rigorous college-level work."
Inclusion on the fourth annual AP District Honor Roll is based on the examination of three years of AP data from 2011 to 2013.
To be included, school districts must increase participation or access to AP courses, increase or maintain the percentage of exams taken by African American, Hispanic/Latino and Native American students, and improve performance levels when comparing the performance levels of students in 2013 scoring a 3 or higher to those in 2011, unless the district has already attained a performance level at which more than 70 percent of its AP students are scoring a 3 or higher.
