AMHERST -- Police probing the thefts of jewelry and other items from two off-campus rental units Saturday are urging residents to lock their doors.
“We have always tried to urge the student population to lock it up,” Lt. Ronald Young said. “They can be victimized if they are not careful with their belongings.”
Both residences appear to have been left unlocked, police said.
One of the break-ins was reported shortly before 1:20 a.m. at Alpine Commons on Belchertown Road. Jewelry and other items were taken, Young said.
The second break-in was reported at about 7 p.m at Salem Place off Main Street. Jewelry and electronics were taken, Young said.
