WEST SPRINGFIELD -- About 700 Western Massachusetts Electric Co. customers in the city's Merrick section lost power for about 40 minutes Thursday morning after a vehicle hit a metal box on Memorial Avenue containing switching equipment.
The accident and outage were reported about 7:50 a.m. and power was restored by 8:30 a.m., said Priscilla Ress, spokeswoman for WMECo.
Information on the accident was not immediately available.
The Big E, ongoing at the Eastern States Exposition Center was not affected, officials said.
