Stephen Megliola and Steven Sheldon were convicted as part of the attorney general's statewide crackdown on Internet cafes.

SPRINGFIELD — A former manager of a defunct Internet cafe in Chicopee pleaded guilty to charges of operating an illegal slot parlor, and was sentenced to two years of probation, the state attorney general said.

Stephen Megliola, 44, of Longmeadow, pleaded guilty on Friday in Hampden Superior Court to charges of organizing or promoting gambling services and operating an illegal lottery, Attorney General Martha M. Coakley said on Monday.

In June, the owner and the second manager of the former Cafeno's cyber cafe, Steven Sheldon, 49, of Westfield, and the corporation itself pleaded guilty to charges of organizing or promoting gambling services, operating an illegal lottery, allowing lotteries in a building and the sale and advertising of lottery tickets. Each defendant was sentenced to two years of probation and more than $250,000 of assets were ordered to be forfeited to the state.

The convictions came as part of the attorney general's statewide crackdown on Internet cafes. In August 2012, state legislators and Gov. Deval L. Patrick approved a law to ban the cafes, helping protect planned casinos from possible competition.
