Funds from The East Longmeadow Educational Endowment Foundation run/walk promote programs in the schools.
EAST LONGMEADOW — The East Longmeadow Educational Endowment Foundation is organizing its third annual 5K Run for Education to raise funds for school programs not funded by the School Department.
"The support and dedication of ELEEF has aided in the implementation of wonderful programs, curriculum, and technology for our students," said Elizabeth Marsian-Boucher, an organizer for the event and School Committee member.
The run will be held Sept. 22 and kicks off at 9 a.m. at Maybury Material Handling at 90 Denslow Road.
Still a relatively new race, Marsian-Boucher said she hopes more runners will sign up in the weeks to come.
"ELEEF's Run for Education was an immediate success in its first year and we hope to continue this new tradition with even more participation from our community," she said.
"The endowment can only help our schools if the community continues to support great events such as this."
Since 1996, the foundation has been awarding grants to East Longmeadow teachers to purchase everything from Spanish textbooks to video editing equipment, math programs and more.
The cost for the race is $35 for per-registration and $40 on race day. Runners under 18 pay $20 and the kids fun run is $5.
