CHICOPEE - A 53-year-old Chicopee man suffered a compound fracture to one of his legs following a Wednesday evening accident on Chicopee Street where he lost control of his motorcycle, police said.
The man, whose name was not being released to the press, was being treated at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield following the 6:15 p.m. accident. He is said to be in stable condition, said Police Lt. Donald Strange.
The man was driving north on Chicopee Street near the entrance to Interstate 391when he lost control of his bike after striking a median strip, Strange said. This apparently caused him to lose control and crash the bike, he said.
Initially it was reported the motorcycle may have crashed after coming into contact with a car, but Strange said the investigation by officers at the scene determined no other vehicles were involved.
