SPRINGFIELD — Two local teenagers were arrested early Wednesday and charged in connection with a knifepoint robbery of a homeless man at Riverfront Park, Springfield Police Capt. Trent Duda said.
The incident was reported at about 12:05 a.m. after the victim made his way to Main Street and contacted police. The man claimed one suspect had a 12-inch knife, according to preliminary police reports. Duda confirmed that "a large knife" was recovered.
Duda said the teens, both minors, were taken into custody at the Pride station at 1211 E. Columbus Ave. They were found to be in possession of some of the victim's property, he said.
Riverfront Park was the scene of a holdup Sunday night, when a man fishing in the Connecticut River was beaten and robbed of his wallet, police said.
