The league teaches the basics of football to youngsters on grades three to eight.
HOLYOKE -- Holyoke Youth Football is playing it safe.
Players will have new helmets. A Springfield College trainer will be on hand. And the league will participate in a sports injury study with the Datalys Center for Sports Injury Research and Prevention, a nonprofit in Indianapolis, Ind. and USA Football, which governs amateur and youth football when the season begins Aug. 31, a press release said.
"I was very excited when I received a call and was asked if our organization would take part in a study to make youth football safer," said league president Mark A. Lubold, who also is a coach.
The league teaches football fundamentals to youths in grades three to eight.
