HEBRON, NY - New York State Police have charged a 44-year-old Granville, N.Y., driver with manslaughter after an investigation into a July accident determined he intentionally drove his car head-on into an oncoming vehicle, killing a 43-year-old North Adams woman.
Ora L. Roaix was arrested and charged with second degree manslaughter, a felony charge that is punishable by between five and 15 years in state prison.
The July 20 accident on Route 29 in the town of Hebron, N.Y., killed Lisa D. Martin of North Adams and injured 5 others including Roaix.
Investigators with the state police Troop G Accident Reconstruction Unit determined that Roaix was suicidal and intentionally crossed the center line into the northbound land and into the path of Martin’s vehicle.
Roaix denied the charge at his arraignment in the Town of Hebron Court. He was ordered held at the Washington County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash or a $25,000 bond. He is due back in court on Aug. 23.
