State police received no 911 calls about the incident.
When two teenage stowaways were spotted hanging from the rear doors and tailgate of a tractor trailer on I-93 in Dorchester Tuesday, several motorists or passengers documented the scene and shared the photos via social media.
Nobody, though, called the police.
After coming into possession of one of the photographs, Massachusetts State Police on Wednesday issued a plea to the public to report such incidents by calling 911.
"We would like to remind the public how unsafe and illegal this is," reads a note accompanying the photo, which was posted to the agency's Facebook page and Twitter feed.
The message continues: "The Massachusetts State Police did not receive any phone calls regarding this incident as it was occurring, yet several drivers took photographs of it. The Massachusetts State Police would like to remind the public to call 911 should you see something like this or any other dangerous situation."
It was unclear how long the teens were on the truck, or how far they traveled.
