The accident happened in front of the Subway restaurant.
Update 1:38 p.m.: The Worcester District Attorney's Office released the name of the person who was killed.
WEST BROOKFIELD - State police are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident which occurred on Route 9 on Monday night.
State police attached to the Brookfield barracks said the accident happened at approximately 6:45 p.m. in front of the Subway sandwich shop on 143 West Main St., east of Route 67 and near the Wok Inn.
State police said Gerald A. Tavernier, 65, of Sturbridge, was operating a 2012 Kia when he struck the pedestrian. The Worcester County District Attorney's Office identified the person killed as Robert Herrie, 69, of 64 Main St., Brownfield, Maine.
State police, the state police collision and reconstruction unit, and West Brookfield police responded to the accident.
