HADLEY — The apparent drowning of a 54-year-old Auburndale man who fell off a dock at the Sportsman’s Marina into the Connecticut River late Monday night is not considered suspicious, investigators said.
State police have yet to release the man’s name pending notification of family members. Auburndale is a village within the city of Newton.
Investigators continue to probe the man's death. A release from the Northwestern District Attorney’s office states the victim was visiting the area and picnicking on a pontoon boat when he was reported missing by a companion.
Hadley police and fire officials were summoned to the area around 11 p.m.
A South Hadley Fire Department diver located his body approximately 13 feet below the surface, some 25 feet from where he was seen falling off a dock at the marina.
The man's death is the latest in a string of drownings that has occurred in the region this summer.
