Daniel Kupruck, 31, of Southwick, was charged with OUI and driving with a suspended license, among other offenses, after he struck a Granby police officer who was assisting a disabled truck, police said.

GRANBY, Conn. — A Southwick man was charged with OUI and other offenses after striking a Granby police officer who had left his cruiser to assist a disabled tractor-trailer on Salmon Brook Street just after 6 p.m. Sunday, police said.

Officer Mark Garofalo was taken by ambulance to Hartford Hospital, where he was treated and later released, said Granby Police Capt. William Tyler, who didn't release specific details about the officer's injuries.

Daniel Kupruck, 31, of Southwick, was arrested in connection with the incident on Salmon Brook Street, also known as Route 10. Police said the accident happened just north of Route 20, less than 3 miles south of the Massachusetts border.

Tyler said Garofalo had exited his marked cruiser to help the driver of a disabled tractor-trailer when he was hit by Kupruck, who was uninjured in the incident.

In addition to OUI, Kupruck was charged with driving without insurance, driving with a suspended license, possession of drug paraphernalia, and striking a police officer with a vehicle, Tyler said.

Krupuck was released on $5,000 bond and ordered to appear in Enfield Superior Court on Aug. 12. Southwick police assisted with traffic control at the accident scene.
