Police are investigating a shooting at a Main Street car wash in which a man sustained three gunshot wounds, including two to the torso and one to the arm.

SPRINGFIELD — City detectives are investigating the fourth shooting with victims on Springfield streets in four days.

Police Lt. Henry Gagnon said one man was shot three times just before 1 a.m. Sunday in the parking lot of the Golden Nozzle car wash at 65 Main St.

Police responded to that address after a ShotSpotter activation and located the victim, who was taken by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center for treatment.

Officers located three spent shell casings near a small patch of blood by the Main Street entrance to the car wash.

Gagnon said the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries from two gunshot wounds to the torso and one to an arm.

Police described a car seen fleeing the area as a 1992 to 1995 silver Honda sedan. It was last seen traveling north on East Columbus Avenue.

In addition to Sunday's shooting four other people have been shot and injured in the city since Thursday, when two men sustained gunshot wounds to their lower extremities just after midnight outside 540 Union St. One was shot in the buttocks, the other in the lower leg. The gunman remains at large.

Around 1:45 a.m. Friday, a man was grazed by a bullet after seven rounds were fired from a semiautomatic handgun in Stearns Square. Junito Batista, 21, of St. James Avenue was arrested within minutes of the shooting after a police officer, who was patrolling the city's entertainment district on foot, saw the suspect with the gun and chased him down. The victim was treated at the hospital and later released.

At approximately 2 a.m. Saturday, a man showed up at Baystate's emergency room with a gunshot wound to the buttocks. He told police he was struck by a bullet after exiting his car, which he had parked in front of 15 Avon Place in the city's Six Corners section.

In addition to these shootings, the city's automated ShotSpotter gunfire detection system went off multiple times each night for the past several evenings. In some instances, ShotSpotter activated more than 10 times during an overnight period, though not all activations represent actual shots fired. Some are simply loud noises such as vehicle engine backfires or fireworks. However, in a significant number cases police find spent shell casings and other evidence of gunfire.
