WARE – Police from several communities including the state police converged on Gabe’s, a Main Street bar room in Ware shortly before 11:30 p.m. Saturday night in response to a huge brawl involving many patrons, according to patrons that had exited the drinking establishment.

When order was restored shortly before midnight, the female bartender, who declined to give her name, said the bar was closed for the night. She said she was trying to get the odor of mace out of the building.

The establishment is officially known as Gabriel Narutowicz Inc. at 11 East Main St.,

At least nine cruisers and a Ware ambulance responded.

Shirtless men were seen vomiting on the sidewalk.

A group of patrons who said they were not involved in the fight were unsure what precipitated the brawl, but said they were among the few people inside that were not throwing punches.

One of the shirtless men said he was attacked by another group of men but did not elaborate. A female that was present during the fighting said a group had entered the bar and that she thought the bartender made a mistake by serving them.
