Man tried to scare pedestrian, ends up facing judge.

PITTSFIELD — A Pittsfield motorist faces felony drug charges after he got into a verbal altercation with a pedestrian.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that Timothy J. Herring, 31, of Lakewood Circle, was arrested after he reportedly showed a handgun to a pedestrian whom he nearly ran down.

The pedestrian told police he was nearly struck by Herring's vehicle as he crossed the street, and yelled, "slow down," as he passed. According to the pedestrian, Herring, for his part, told the man to "watch yourself" then waved what the man believed was a chrome handgun.

That is when police stepped in and stopped Herring's car. During a subsequent search officers found 11 1/2 grams of cocaine and 34 Oxycodone pills with a street value in excess of $2,300. Herring was also carrying approximately $3,500 in cash. They did not find a gun.

He was arraigned in Central Berkshire District Court Friday on two counts of possession of a Class B substance with the intent to distribute.

According to authorities, Herring has two previous drug convictions dating back to 2004.
