SPRINGFIELD -- An overnight fire destroyed a 6-family home in the city's Six Corners neighborhood, leaving 14 people homeless.

The blaze was reported at 511 Hancock St. at 1:21 a.m., said Springfield Fire Department Public Information Officer Dennis G. Leger, executive aide to fire Commissioner Joseph A. Conant.

There were no injuries, and investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.

Firefighters arriving at the scene found a significant fire at the rear of the wood-frame building, fueled in part by a car that was also engulfed in flames.

Leger said the fire gutted the building, which is owned by Dionne Real Estate LLC. of Bedford, NH, according to city records. The property was most recently assessed at $174,000, and Leger said the building appeared to be a total loss.
