Among the zoning amendments proposed by the Planning Board are the creation of an Affordable Housing district, and a South Hadley Falls Overlay district.

SOUTH HADLEY – A special town meeting Wednesday will consider major changes to South Hadley’s zoning bylaws.

The meeting at Town Hall begins at 7 p.m.

Among the zoning amendments proposed by the Planning Board are the creation of an Affordable Housing district, and a South Hadley Falls overlay district.

An overlay district in the Falls would, according to the Planning Board, provide town officials greater flexibility when considering business proposals.

“The purpose of this overlay district is to encourage the redevelopment of South Hadley Falls in a manner that is consistent with its historic urban pattern by allowing greater flexibility of uses and relaxing certain other requirements that have been obstacles to redevelopment within this district,” the board says.

Town Meeting will act on a request to revise “home occupation” by creating two home-occupation zones.

Discussion of the amendment involving at-home business was discussed at a recent Know Your Town public forum with the Planning Board when there was disagreement about whether the change is a good idea..

The Town Meeting will also act on a request to appropriate $20,000 for Board of Health inspections and $28,000 related to police collective bargaining.

Another article would remove the plumbing and gas inspector from the Health Department office, and place the function in the building commissioner’s office.

There is a Planning Board proposal seeking to to create the South Hadley Municipal Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
