SPRINGFIELD - The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Western Massachusetts and much of northern Connecticut.

Heavy rains are expected in the area beginning at 6:30 p.m. and fall at a rate of one to two inches per hour through 9:15 p.m.

That much rain will likely result in flooding in urban areas as it will overwhelm draining systems, and it may also cause small streams to overflow.

Areas expected to see flooding include Springfield, Chicopee, Northampton, Greenfield, Russell, Montgomery and Blandford.
