Markey has already received donations from Dreamworks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, and chairman of Walt Disney Studios Alan Horn and his wife Cindy Horn.
Democratic Senate candidate Edward Markey is headed to the West Coast this Sunday to do some fundraising with major Democratic donors Haim and Cheryl Saban.
Variety Magazine and Deadline Hollywood reported that Markey's fundraiser will be held at the Saban's Beverly Hills home with tickets starting at $1,000 per person.
The Sabans have donated millions of dollars to Democratic committees, politicians and super PACs. Forbes Magazine reported that Haim Saban made billions of dollars in television, starting with his transformation of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers into a universal brand.
Previous Markey donors include Dreamworks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, and chairman of Walt Disney Studios Alan Horn and his wife Cindy Horn, among others.
News of Markey's California fundraiser stirred a range of reactions. Here is some of what MassLive.com's readers have said on the topic:

Ed Markey is the career politician we need out of government. Gomez is taking it to the streets and talking to people. What is Markey doing, hanging with big donors. Just like Martha Coakley against Scott Brown...the career politician will lose.

FOR SALE - MASSACHUSETTS SENATORIAL SEAT - BEST OFFER
Is there any surprise here that we will elect another puppet senator who is beholden to Hollywood, NYC, and groups outside the country. This guy could care less about the economy in Western MA. As long as he has a D in front of his name and he follows the political franchise rules for Mass, he will be a shoe in and a voice for anyone but Mass.
It is funny that someone would say "we know Ed". He has not lived in this state for a decade. No one knows Ed in Mass. Ed does not know Ed anymore. They have not seen him in DC lately either. Ed is like the guy who was missing in Maine and came out of the woods while there was a news live shot being done on his disappearance.
I would think the Liberals and Democrats on this board would have some standards. All I see is the attacks on Gomez and no cognizant arguments as to why they like Markey. Tell me what he is going to do for the Mass economy? Does he approve of the Debt continuing skyrocket? Has he ever voted against a tax? Please help me.

The difference is that we know who Ed is and what he will work for. Gab on the other hand is trying to pull a brownie on the people of Mass. If he does what he says he's going to do then he will be a ineffective Senator, or if he doesn't he will be a Mitch boy. Either way walking around with John (time to retire) McCain is a clear indication that he will be a Mitch boy, the same as old grizzled bear Johnny...

Incredible, isn't it,but now we know why he has been absent from campaigning in the state and absent from doing the job he was elected to do in DC.
Reverse the roles here,if you will. The Republican candidate is a rich white guy who hasn't lived in this state for years and never held a private sector job.He has been a 37 year career politician with few,if any, worthy legislation introduced.
The Democratic candidate is an Hispanic immigrant who not only served his country in the military but was a Navy Seal.He is highly educated, ( Harvard MBA), and a successful businessman. He also is not in anyone's pocket.
Now.....why in God's name would anyone vote for that Republican?
Why in God's name would the liberal papers in this Democratic state endorse the Republican and run biased articles in his favor?
Why isn't it being called anti-immigrant to want an unqualified candidate as opposed to the superior immigrant candidate?
Get my drift? It will be shameful if Markey,( who's Markey?), buys this Senate seat. The Democratic Party needs to be given a wake-up call that we,the middle class, are done with their tax and spend philosophy.
