The accident happened where interstates 91 and 291 split, a frequent crash site.
SPRINGFIELD — A driver was injured in a two-car crash on Interstate 291 that caused one vehicle to roll onto its roof Sunday night.
The driver of a red sedan that flipped during the rollover accident had to be extricated by city firefighters. He was taken to Baystate Medical Center for treatment of non life-threatening injuries, said Dennis G. Leger, aide to Springfield Fire Commissioner Joseph A. Conant.
Leger said the accident happened around 8 p.m. when the driver of the sedan collided with another car in the westbound lane of I-291 just below Chestnut Street, where the highway splits to Interstate 91. The second driver was uninjured, he said.
"It was raining and that is a difficult spot where people are going fast and they should use caution," Leger said, noting that there are a lot of accidents in that area.
Massachusetts State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
