A woman swimmer, feared missing in the Westfield River, is found alive and well.
HUNTINGTON— A missing swimmer in the Westfield River in Huntington was found alive and well after several hours of searching by Huntington officials and State Police K9 and Air Wing assets.
22 News reported the 30-year-old woman was reported missing at approximately 9:30 p.m. by friends after she went swimming in the Westfield River at a location on Upper Russell Road, west of the town center. The friends called police after she disappeared.
The State Police at the Russell Barracks were called in to assist town police and fire searchers. A K9 unit from the Russell Barracks and a helicopter from the Air Wing at Westover Airport in Chicopee were called in to assist.
Police said the woman was found not in the water, but there appears to be some confusion about exactly where she was during the time she was missing.
Several local media reports placed her in the water when found, while others say she was found in a car some distance from the swimming hole where she started.
The State Police units were were ordered to stand down at approximately 11:20 p.m.
A State Police trooper involved with the search said the women was evaluated by Huntington Fire Department EMTs and appeared well.
