The letter also included a photo that showed the gun was only slightly larger than a quarter.

PALMER — Superintendent Thomas Charko is taking no public position on the reported punishment of a kindergartner who took a Lego gun on a school bus Friday.
“There is no issue to comment about,” a spokesperson from Charko’s office said in response to a call from The Republican.
According to abc40, Mieke Crane told her 6-year-old son at Old Mill Pond Elementary School was required to apologize and given detention after carrying a Lego plastic gun about the size of a quarter on to the school bus.
Both Crane’s son and the student who alerted the driver had to apologize, according to Crane, who says her son also must serve detention on Tuesday.
After the Friday incident, school officials sent home a letter to parents emphasizing that a real gun wasn’t involved and that their children were never in danger, according to abc40. The letter also included a photo that showed the gun was only slightly larger than a quarter.
“I think they overreacted ... “ Crane told abc40. “This is just a toy.”
This is not the first time a phony gun has caused a stir in Palmer schools. In May 2011, a 9-year-old Old Mill Pond Elementary School student was disciplined and summoned to Juvenile Court after bringing an Airsoft gun on a school bus.
