Fitchburg Police rescue two people from car that was in three feet of water.
FITCHBURG, Mass. (AP) — Two people were pulled from a submerged car in the Nashua River Sunday morning.
The Telegram and Gazette reports that Fitchburg Deputy Fire Chief Brian F. Belliveau said he was cautiously optimistic that the unidentified man and woman would recover after the morning rescue. The vehicle was seen by an off-duty police officer.
Belliveau says a group of people rushed to the vehicle, which was in about three feet of water, and got it upright. The two people were unresponsive and had no pulses when rescuers removed them from the vehicle.
Their pulses had returned after their arrival at UMass Memorial-HealthAlliance Leominster hospital.
It was not known how the car was in the river or how long it had been there.
