SUFFIELD — A fire caused heavy damage to a home on Mapleton Avenue Wednesday evening, and reports from the scene are that one resident remains missing.
The fire in the two-story home at 1489 Mapleton Ave. was reported at about 7 p.m., and was still burning about an hour later, according to a report by Suffield Patch.
Suffield Fire Department officials said two people managed to get out of the house, but a third person was not accounted for, according to WFSB, Channel 3 in Hartford.
As of 9 p.m., the person's whereabouts could not be determined, and firefighters had not yet been able to enter the house out of concerns for its structural stability.
Deputy Fire Chief Tom Romano told Suffield Patch that fire officials are uncertain how many people lived in the home, or whether the third person was home at the time of the fire.
Mapleton Avenue is located off Route 159, about a half-mile south of Six Flags in Agawam.
Firefighters from Thompsonville and Windsor Locks were also on scene.
