NORTHAMPTON - An Amherst man is scheduled to go on trial next week for assaulting a Northampton woman in her home.
Yaazziel Q. Rivera, 19, is charged with breaking into the North Street house, attacking the female resident there and robbed her after threatening to kill her.
Police recovered DNA at the scene that prosecutors have linked to another break-in in Northampton that took place at approximately the same time during August 2011.
Rivera's lawyer, Alfred Chamberland, filed a motion to suppress the DNA evidence.
Judge Mary Lou Rup scheduled a status conference on the case for Monday, before jury selection is to begin.
