Springfield Arson & Bomb Squad summoned to Los Angeles Street to investigate suspicious item

A fire department spokesman said the item appears to be a section of pipe capped at both ends.

SPRINGFIELD -- The Springfield Arson & Bomb Squad was summoned to Los Angeles Street early Tuesday afternoon to investigate a suspicious item.

The item, which appears to be a piece of pipe capped on both ends, was discovered in the area of 14-16 Los Angeles St. at about 1:30 p.m., said Dennis Leger, aide to Commissioner Joseph Conant.

“The street is secure and Arson & Bomb is looking it over,” Leger said.
